We all look for ways to work faster. If you use the internet at home or for your business, it pays to do what you can to obtain the fastest internet speed. Don't wait for the speed to increase on it's own. Take action so that you are not waiting to get your job done.
Speed you ask?
Internet connections and the speed related to them vary greatly. The connection from the vendor to your home, from your home to the modem inside the home and then to your computer are all areas that might slow response down for you.
There are internet services which allow you to check the speed of your connection. Try any below that you like and see if the reported results match what you are paying for. If you have discrepancies, it's time to take action.

Ethernet or 'wired' and wireless
Generally, when most people talk of their 'network' they are describing a collection of 'things' that allow people in their business to gain access to the internet or resources in their business that are running on a server. Also, printers are generally setup on a network to provide for maximum flexibility. Printers can be connected (depending on the model) with an Ethernet cable or possibly even through a wireless connection.
Networks are, therefore, everywhere and in most, if not all, businesses. With that there are WIRED connections (an Ethernet cable is connected to a wall jack and then to your computer) and WIRELESS (no wires anywhere between your laptop or desktop and the access point).
Hospitality - Hotels - Condos
In an area where people are staying for vacation and/or work, today they are expecting a connection to the internet (a network connection that allows your computer to access the internet and all it's splendor). As already mentioned, there are usually a combination of wired and wireless connections. In the cases where there are ONLY wireless connections for guests, there is inevitably an issue. Case in point is when a stock broker (who has high network requirements) visits a hotel and expects to do his or her stock brokerage duties. Wireless connections work for this but if there is the slightest 'hiccup', they are quite disappointed.
Wired network connection, a great solution
Many times, when there is a wired connection in a hotel or guest room, the connection is the standard setup with an Ethernet network cable simply laid across the desk for the client to use. In most cases, the cable will, at some point, fall behind the desk (and sometimes behind a heavy piece of furniture) and require that someone find and extract the network cable. Most of the time, someone gets a bump on the head during the process.
One option is an access point (a way of getting to a network connection) that is placed on a piece of furniture and keeps the cable in place. Not only is the network cable in view for the guest, but it remains in place (unless stolen!). An example is pictured below. There are several variations of the model.
